Tips to Stay Healthy this Fall
Don’t let the cooler temperatures and diminishing sunlight hinder your health. Try our top tips to stay healthy this fall so you can enjoy all that the season has to offer!
Breathe:
In through the nose until the lungs are full and hold for 5 seconds. Exhale completely and repeat for 3 full breaths. Do this 3 times a day to minimize stress, clear the airways and free your mind. Taking deep belly breaths triggers the parasymapthetic nervous system which takes us out of fight or flight and into rest and digest. This lowers our stress levels, inflammation, and tension in the body.
Explore Daily Movement:
Find a time in your day that you can commit to moving your body. This could be as simple as a 10 minute walk outside, yoga, going to a gym, or something adventurous like indoor rock climbing! Movement is medicine so find what feels good for you and your body.
Eat In-Season Foods:
Fall foods are heartier and nourishing while also supporting the immune system. Make your favorite soups & stews and save leftovers for quick meals & easy lunches!
Reorganize, Clean & Donate:
Although we associate spring with decluttering, autumn is the perfect time to take stock of things in your life, organize and let go of the old to make room for the new. Clean your closets, cupboards, computers and even your mind of unused, unnecessary items.
Take Vitamin D:
Especially in Michigan, we lose a lot of sunlight in the fall and winter. Vitamin D is essential for immune function as well as a healthy mind! We often start to feel we’ve got the winter blues, and vitamin D is helpful at combating those feelings while supporting our immune system, bones, and teeth.
Try an At-Home Lympathic Massage:
If you tend to experience sinus issues or are prone to colds in the fall and winter, we recommend trying out at home lymphatic massage. Stimulating our lymph nodes promotes proper drainage and flow of the sinuses. This allievates sinus pressure and headaches as well as lowering inflammation. Get adjusted:
Regular adjustments improve mobility, circulation, drainage & physical well-being. Don’t let a nagging injury linger into the holiday season!

Why should kids get adjusted?
Kids And Chiropractic
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in alternative and holistic healthcare practices, especially concerning children’s health. One such approach gaining popularity is pediatric chiropractic, which focuses on promoting wellness, preventing health issues, and enhancing the overall quality of life for young individuals.
Understanding Chiropractic For Kids
Pediatric chiropractic seeks to address musculoskeletal imbalances, misalignments, and potential issues within the nervous system that may affect a child’s health and development. Chiropractors who specialize in pediatric care undergo additional training to cater to the unique needs of young patients.

By focusing on optimizing the nervous system and promoting overall wellness, it offers numerous benefits for children, from improved sleep and behavior to early intervention for potential health issues. What is Naturopathic Medicine and Functional Medicine?
What is Naturopathic Medicine? Is it the same as Functional Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine and functional medicine are two different health care practices with the shared goal of improving overall wellness. What this means is that both focus on improving the function of our organs and systems, rather than solely treating symptoms. This is accomplished in a comprehensive and systematic way that takes into account the mental, emotional, and physical aspects that determine our health.
Naturopathic medicine is a branch of medicine that bridges the gap between traditional and modern medicine and seeks to determine root causes of health issues. This is done using primarily (but not exclusively) natural remedies such as diet and nutrition, homeopathy, herbals, supplements, manual therapies, and sometimes pharmaceuticals. Those who practice naturopathic medicine are called Naturopathic Doctors (N.D.) if they graduated from a 4-year, accredited naturopathic medical school, or Naturopaths if they did not.
Functional medicine is a philosophy that health professionals use to understand the causes of illness or disease combined with a great understanding for how different body systems work together.
Who benefits from these types of medicine? Truly, anyone. It is especially useful for chronic and autoimmune conditions, fatigue, pain, optimizing performance, and preventative health. According to the National Center for Chronic Disease and Prevention, about 60% of Americans have at least 1 chronic condition, which they describe as ongoing health problems that limit daily activities. Often, these chronic diseases have multiple causes and need multiple types of treatments which is why using naturopathic or functional medicine is effective for treating these conditions.
Whether someone practices naturopathic or functional medicine, the goal is to take an individualized, comprehensive, and holistic approach to optimize healing.
7 Tips for a Healthy Holiday Season
7 Tips for a Healthy Holiday Season.
Holiday festivities can derail even the healthiest of us all. For many people this leads to weight gain, sick days and leaves them more susceptible to injury. Try these simple tips to stay healthy over the holidays and start the New Year on the right track!
1. Watch your liquid calories. A 12-ounce flavored latte can have anywhere from 250 to 350 calories, hot chocolate has 250 calories, a glass of wine has 150 calories, a micro beer has 150 calories and a vodka/club soda with lime has 100 calories. But, did you know that 8oz of kombucha has only 25 calories !?!?! At your next gathering, try serving GT’s Trilogy Kombucha mixed half and half with lime LaCroix. Trust me, your guests will love it! Or, just stick to club sodas (with no artifical sweeteners) and herbal tea. And, don’t forget to drink half your body weight in ounces of pure water per day.
2. Look for veggies and nuts. When snacking or eating appetizers, stick to veggies and nuts. Put them on a plate/bowl and pre-determine how much you’re going to eat. Don’t graze!
3. Stick to your routine. Go for walks, stretch, read, go to bed at the same time, don’t skip or add meals, exercise and take time for yourself each day. This will cut down on emotional eating, stress and help you not completely let yourself go.
4. Do something fun! Go for a hike, put together a puzzle, or watch a favorite Christmas movie with family and friends. Relaxation and laughter are good for your emotional health and overall well-being.
5. Bring healthy options to gatherings. Make up your favorite salad, soup or veggie platter to share with friends and family. Or, order this holiday themed cookbook for new, dairy free/gluten free options that are sure to be a hit!
6. Don’t get down on yourself. Eat/drink too much at a party last night? Too many cookies at lunch? Shake it off and get back on track by making your next meal high in protein and vegetables. Or drink some homemade broth as a meal replacement to reset your digestive system. Don’t dwell on the past and focus your attention on healthier options until the next holiday gathering comes around.
7. Try something new. Try our mobility advent challenge, commit to walking 2+ miles every day, sign up for a New Year’s Day 5k, swim at the local pool, do a one-month trial at a new gym, do a one-month yoga challenge, or even try a 5-10 day health reset.
Bonus Tip: Get adjusted to minimize stress on your body and to prevent illness and injury!

November Vitamin of the Month: Vitamin D!
Supercharge Your Winter
Vitamin of the Month: Vitamin D
As our sunlight (in the Midwest) continues to diminish, so do our Vitamin D levels. Special lights can often help your body make this essential vitamin nutrient, as does eating foods rich in Vitamin D such as egg yolk, fatty fish, mushrooms, and lard (Dr. Levi’s favorite!).
However, that usually is still not enough. This is why we recommend adding our favorite Vitamin D to your daily routine. This supplement includes a blend of Vitamin K to aid in absorption and help the immune system, heart, and bone health.
Seize the opportunity to purchase this supplement at the discounted rate in office. The regular price is $31, this month it is only $25! This deal expires 12/01/2023.
